The chair is made employing Swelled Joint Construction a technique borrowed from Shaker design that uses NO GLUE or harsh chemicals. The key is the moisture difference of the small and large posts. The larger posts shrink and the smaller ones expand making an extremely tight fit. And this fit only gets tighter over time. The only thing that has been changed over the years has been the addition of stainless steel nails to enable outdoor use and an additional comfort curve at the front of the seat.
